The Little Venue That Could Grant Recipients

We are delighted to announce the recipients of The Little Venue That Could grant program.

IndieSpace partnered with The Howard Gilman Foundation to award two-year $10,000 grants to a minimum of 10 NYC-based performance venues with annual budgets under $750,000. The program received 53 applications that were given weighted scores based on scoring from the Little Venue That Could Review Committee. All applicants were then entered into a random lottery.

With the incredible generosity of The Howard Gilman Foundation, we were able to award 13 well deserving venues!

We would like to thank our The Little Venue That Could Review Committee. These individuals helped to read, review, and score all applications.

  • Pia Agrawal — Executive Director, Staten Island Arts

  • Karesia Batan — Queensboro Dance Festival

  • Carrie Blake — Independent Research & Planning Consultant for the Arts

  • Christine Bruno — SAG-AFTRA, AEA, The Actors Studio

  • Skye Kowaleski — JACK

  • Azure Osborne-Lee — Board member for JACK; Union rep for ACT-UAW Local 7902; Founding producer of Roots and River Productions; Lucille Lortel Awards voter

IndieSpace would also love to give a special thank you to Alejandra Duque Cifuentes of ADC Consulting for her amazing guidance on this program.

We are grateful to everyone who shared The Little Venue That Could throughout the indie theater and dance community. We were amazed at the number of venues and hope this program helped to pave the way for consistent and significant support for small venues in our ecosystem.
